he couldn’t stop laughing. what’s the big deal? he’s a seventeen year old boy with a knack for pranks and immaturity. he was rolled up in a fetal position from laughing so hard, because he could practically hear her irritation in her thoughts, cursing his existence for being such a dweeb. he let out a choke of laughter and sighed heavily. he was ready to send another message, this time jam packed with an annoyingly large amount of emojis — but she was progressing closer and he didn’t even notice it — until his head was locked in the hold of her small arms.
“e-euck! tina-chaaaan!” he cried loudly, his limbs flailing as he’s half laughing and half feigning the close proximity of his demise. “i—i d—won’t do it again!” miku’s laughing and whining at the same time, too amused by the scene unravelling between them to be even the slightest bit concerned of his near death! “aaaah! ah! okay! i won’t do it anymore, tina-chan, spare me onegaishimasuuuuuuuu!"
After Tina receives confirmation from him, she unlocks the grip around his neck and immediately snatched his phone away from him with her slim fingers that held the phone with a surprisingly tight grip. "Good, and i’m going to take this phone with me for the night !” She announced with the phone strap tightly bounded around her index finger. She gave him one haughty glance before she bounced out of his room in a few quick steps accompanied by a joyful skips of victory.
Having arrived to her room, she swiftly locked the door behind her before she plopped onto her messily made bed and giggled with glee at her success. It was not long before she heard the pounding sound against her door “I told you !I’m going to keep your phone for the night, Miku-kun !” she yelled in return before she returned to her giggles. Along with her curious nature, she flipped the phone around in circles and wondered if she should see what he had in store… perhaps even secret love messages? Or… secrets? At the mention of secrets, her heart pounded in anticipation and curiosity. However, one part of her says that its better to not know at all and that maybe some things are better left unknown.

SEND ME A ♮ FOR MY MUSE’S REACTION TO YOURS COMING UP FROM BEHIND AND WRAPPING THEIR ARMS AROUND MINE’S WAIST. // ✉
A small yelp forms from her mouth when two arms are snuggly wrapped around her thin waist from behind in surprise. “What are you doing Shiba-kun?” She wondered, feeling his wide chest pressed against her narrow back that warmed her both inside and out. A feeling that she could never admit to him.
“This is actually illegal. You know, to sneak an attack from behind” she murmured and slightly embarrassed to look behind her. The redness from embarrassment flared from her cheeks to her ears. Refusing to let him see her embarrassment, she pried his arm away and placed it on top her her shoulder. This action was something she learned in those kung fu movies and to Tina it was quite realistic to the point she thought she would try it out some day and today, this was the day. Bending her waist forward, she attempted to flip him over. Instead, his arm slid from her narrow shoulders that caught him off balance and pulled her along with him. She tumbled to the ground, instead of the hard floor greeting her, familiar arms encircled around her. Peeking up to watch him, she shrugged and gave him a cheeky smile “Oops, I guess that move didn’t work”
Kou was silent as his fingers slowly traced over the bandages in the small kit on the table in front of him. His normally big eyes were squinting at the small lettering scribbled in the corner of each package. “Mnn, I still don’t understand how you managed to cut your leg walking” His voice was soft, comforting as he turned with a medium sized package in his fingers. “You’re lucky I studied spiritual medicine when I was growing up” As he leaned down to kneel in front of the woman a smile appeared against his lips. Slowly he moved his hand to hover over the cut, closing his eyes briefly before a pale blue light began to glow beanth his fingers. A moment later the light faded, his fingers working quickly to placed the banage over the wound.
She couldn’t say, and even when she wanted to, the words seemed to stop at the tip of her tongue. She didn’t get the cut from merely walking, a few girls had decided it was funny to trip Tina when she wasn’t paying attention while she was delivering coffee to a customer. She suppressed her anger, swallowed it, and in a few moments she gave a tight smile while apologising to no one in particular. Instead of getting her leg treated, she had decided to just leave it, while tears threatened to overflow from the brim of her round eyes. It was later when a young man offered to treat it that she noticed the cut on her leg. “I’m… not sure either. Maybe, i’m just clumsy” She replied in a relaxed manner in order to lighten up the mood, or more like, her own mood.
Just before she began to slip back into her own thoughts, a faint light emerged from the young man’s palm. Staring at him wide-eyed she wondered “How… how did you do that? It’s beautiful…” the words slipped from her lips unknowingly before she quickly added “Wait, can you show me again?” her tear-brimming eyes immediately became overtaken by curiosity and admiration as he bandaged her wound.

“b—but,” miku’s pout always had her. always. if it wasn’t for how small and tiny and annoyingly cute he was, there was no hope for aegyo to save him anytime soon. though, he had to admit. texting her while she was on the other side of the room, and texting her ‘banana boob’ every two minutes on the dot could get particularly annoying. he was having too much fun. “okay, fine.”
he gave a sneaky smile though, texting her phone once again with the words ‘boob banana,’ and for some reason, he never felt so fulfilled in his life. he’s just bored. there was a reason why he hung around her— someone could actually speak his first tongue—and annoying her like this to no end was almost as fun as annoying her by waking her up at 5am in the morning for jogs. he was hardly sorry, but it was okay. miku was almost sure that tina reciprocated the love in some way, even if it was smacking him or scolding him everytime he would mess up aesthetics in her cafe.
he was like the annoying little brother, but despite how much you say you don’t like him, you love him even more, right?
“Ugh ! you are so lame” Tina exclaimed and her face and brows were scrunched up in fury as he continues to text the repetitive, vulgar message to her phone. Ding… Ding… Ding… continued to ring from her phone. Just when she believed that he would stop his pranks after her threat, another ring sounded from her phone again and the words “banana boob” reappeared on the top of her notification screen.
Having enough of what she considered was a “childish prank”, she stalked towards his room with her face still scrunched up into an angry expression and spots him on the bed with the phone in-between his hands. With a few wide strides that quickly closed the distance between them, she curled the bent of her arm around his neck and playfully strangles him. “Take this, Miku !” Although his aegyo was probably one of the cutest expression she had ever seen on a boy, Tina tossed away any sisterly feelings she had for his aegyo and continued to scold him “Are you going to do that again? If you are, i’m going to continue to strangle you” She chided with a cheeky smirk playing on her lips, since, at this moment, she had the upper-hand in the fight.
A grin appears just at the very corners of his lips instead of the odd look she expects from him; he knows much better than to do anything but smile around her. She was the shining ray of sunlight someone needed — and he wouldn’t be the rain cloud to ruin the skies. “I think…” His fingers turned their hands around to flip, his gaze giving attention on her palm for just a moment as he spoke the latter of the sentence. “You need to be more selfish for yourself, this year. Do you realize how much you think of others, when you should be spending most of that thinking about yourself?” He remembers the amazement that stirs up all inside of him when he speaks; it catches him mid-sentence.
He held a hand in his own hands he probably wasn’t good enough to keep near.
The air remained with the nerve-chilling temperature he had been hit with the moment he left the music, alcohol and the parties, yet he was warmer now. The physical aspect of it didn’t matter, as there was a different kind of warmth burning up inside of him where it did matter. Kindling fires of new beginnings, the endless possibilities of fonder memories and the new rising chances of better. His grin had simmered away and been replaced with a childish smile instead at the new thought — a thought only attained from her words. The bad thoughts seemed to disappear; they wouldn’t be able to do so forever, but they only lingered around weakly. The smile’s still there as he begins to speak again. “And you’re really insisting on comparing me to some puppy? I don’t ask you to take me out on walks… why am I half offended by this?” The bad thoughts were weak because of the light shining so radiantly by him — only the brightest he had by him.
“Who are you calling sad? Don’t put labels on people, tch. Especially not me.” The loud crack in the distance ceases his words for just a moment, and that same moment seemed all but a dream. Colors in the sky which are more than just blue — with the subtle heat exchanged between touching hands. He was thankful for everything at this moment. A moment he took in silence, just by himself. It caused his eyes to close and his muscles to relax; lungs to take in the fresher air of the night. Gravity soon pulled the weight of his head to the side a bit, and it rested upon the girl, and he remained comfortable. He could catch the natural scent she carried, and it laxed him further; an aroma of crushed berries with a tinge of lavenders in the wind.
“Happy New Year, Tina.”
Surprisingly, she felt her hands turned around by the other that exposed her palm to the cold. It took her awhile but she eventually garnered some courage to peek over at the other, only to see him contemplating with a genuine smile that, in return, made the tip of her lips upturn. “Well, I try to… but I don’t know what to wish for. ” she mumbled slightly as her focus returned to the tiny beaming lights plastered across the sky, while the occasional hanabi that rocketed into the sky would temporarily outshine the tiny stars to steal their spotlight. She had everything she wanted. She had friends, she developed relationships she never thought she would’ve developed this year, and she was honestly happy. “Ehh… but you are a Shiba inu though” Tina jutted out her bottom lip into a pout as she reached over to ruffle his cropped hair in a sisterly way.
“Psh, it’s super easy to tell, Shiba-kun needs lots of love” She replied as bubbling laughters welled up inside of her. Her laughters was stopped when the sky crackled again ambitiously to steal the star’s spotlight and a moment of silence covered the air. It was a time for reflection, it was a time where all of one’s memories gathered together to form a perfect picture of the year together, and it was Tina’s favourite time of the year. Just when she delved into deep thoughts, his next words brought up another smile on her lips. It was honestly, an imperfect way to celebrate the New Years, but at this moment she was content and she knew that 2015 was going to even better.
“Happy New Year to you too, Mikoto- Kun”
There were times where Kei would forget about Tina’s tight hugs, and now was one of those times. Thankfully, they weren’t too tight to the point that she was unable to breathe, and she truly missed the other girl, especially since she had been away for so long.
“Osaka? Well, it’s been good,” Kei answered, sitting back in her chair, something she did out of habit. “I live on campus, for one. Although it’s kind of hard when you have a concert later on and then you come back and you have to do homework or you have a class later on in the day.” She chuckled softly, looking around the cafe as Tina gestured around it. “Ah, I see, that’s completely understandable. It seems like there’s been more customers as of late! Which is always good, of course.” She flashed a thumbs up at the girl, smiling widely. “Has anything else been going on with you?”
Tina nodded as she listened to Kei before she replied “That’s good… and ew homework” At the thought of homework, Tina’s face contorted into a small pout of disgust “but, at least you’re smart so you shouldn’t have any problems” Tina’s small pout is quickly replaced by features of pride at the fact that Kei was smart when it came to schooling compared to Tina.
“I guess it’s kind of good, but it’s usually because of Christmas and the New years. After the festivities, my cafe is going to become eerily quiet” She explained, while she adjusted her roundly framed glasses that had fallen near the tip of her nose. Tina went over to the counter and began to prepare materials, spices for the other’s coffee “Hmm… nothing much really. Though, I have been meeting and befriending many celebrities around the area… which is kind of weird considering how you usually meet celebrities in the tiny bright screen” musing over the various situation Tina had faced over a span of a few months, it had been kind of hectic. “What do you want to drink today? It’s my treat” Tina glanced at the other with a cheeky smile.
vividxly: “Hello there, the name’s Yura. It’s so nice to meet you,” the girl smiled before bowing slightly.
Cafe, Waiting, Love.
“This place again, huh?” Kei muttered to herself. The cafe was just as colorful and warm like the last time she had strolled by it. It had been two years since she had last seen Tina, ever since she had told her that she had joined a band and would be moving to Osaka to perform at concerts. She left her phone number, and Kei had kept in contact with Tina for several months until they simply started drifiting apart due to their busy lives.
“I’m here!” Kei shouted as she entered the cafe with a wide smile, looking around. “Everything still looks the same, minus a few changes…” she muttered to herself as she looked around in awe before sitting down at a table. She saw a small girl with a particularly recognizable bob haircut and waved her hands as attempt to catch her attention. “Tina!” she shouted again. “Remember me?”
After accommodating the last customers for the evening, Tina was about to head home for a small break when she heard a vaguely familiar shout behind her. Twisting her body around, she was about to bow down to greet her, who she thought was a new customer, out of habit. Before she could bow, the familiar face of the girl halted her motion. Tina moved slowly with sure steps towards the other. “Kei?” Tina asked, hesitant, before her eyes alighted at the sight of her long lost friend. Memories of their adventures together returned to Tina and she literally skipped over to her friend to give her a tight hug
“How was Osaka? I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to visit you… things just got so hectic, but i’m glad you’re back for now!” and gestured around her cafe, while she sat herself next to her.
A whole year, gone. It’s the same remorse he feels at the end of every round of 365 days. He had turned 21, made friends, passed that difficult number systems class, and finally drank his first beer — then spat it right back out. Three hundred sixty-five days, and yet there was not one thing he was really satisfied with. And perhaps he would make resolutions, the same ones as the last. And he was almost sure he’d end up in the same place as now. The vicious cycle.
His wrist snaps a couple of times as the soda can in his hand twirls around. The smallest sigh from the can comforts him in some odd way. Some New Years party this was. He had found more room to breathe up here, on the rooftop, although the wind was an awful companion. He sat silently, the background noise being that of the blaring music from inside the house. For a brief moment, he had second thoughts about joining the rest of his friends. To just let alcohol take over his systems — as foul as the liquid was. He could stop thinking about negative things for at least one night. But then what would he do about tomorrow?
The footsteps of someone else stirs him, and he spares a glance behind. It’s only Tina, and he relaxes once he hears her sweet voice — he’s grown too comfortable around her. No, he had always been comfortable when it came to her. She has been much like the younger sister he never had. Her words cause him to smile, and he gestures with a hand for her to come sit by him. “Reflecting.” The gray skies are lit up by sudden bursts of colors which then disappear after forming intricate patterns. His skull nods over to the source, smiling. “And watching the fireworks too.” There’s some sullen mood layered on his tone of voice, and he wants to be more optimistic, especially in front of her.
“You know, now that I think about it — this year wasn’t a complete mess. I met you. That’s enough.” And he truly means his words.
“That sounds fun, I guess it’s better than the party inside…” Tina mumbled thoughtfully. Honestly, she hadn’t want to join the new year’s party. The crowds, the drunkards, and the occasional guys who came up to her in an attempt to hit her up were plenty of reasons to not come, but under her friend’s influence, she decided to give in for once and see how everything went and she was glad that Mikoto came.
“You know, you should save those sweet words for your girlfriend Shiba-chan” Tina teased and nudged his shoulders playfully. Her cheeks turned red at his words, but hopes that he assumed that the redness of her cheeks were merely from the cold weather as she took up the seat next to him. During these few weeks, she had gotten closer to him emotionally and even made up a silly nickname for him Shiba-chan. It was a nickname that was given to him because of her love undying love for Shiba-inu and how his constant cheerful personality reminded her of her favourite dog. However, contrary to his usual cheerfulness, his tone was laced with a slight tint of down-beat and Tina’s lips downturned at his deep, untouchable thoughts. It was during these times that Tina wished she had the power to read minds, since Mikoto had this unreadable face that Tina couldn’t decipher. The more she watched him, the more she was at loss at how to cheer him up.
Uncertain, Tina just did the first thing that came to mind. After a few moments of silence and fidgeting, she eventually reaches over and takes his large hand in hers. “I’m sure there are other things that made your 2014 more memorable right? Don’t be sad okay? Lets uh – make 2015 even better!” Tina’s voice was adamant and encouraging with a few stutters from nervousness as she petted his large hand. His hand was rough, callused from his work, yet she could tell he was a gentle person like the time they had first met. She held onto his cold hand against her warm ones, hoping that she could bring some sort of warmth or support, even if it was the tiniest bit.
“But, you know. Ever since I was young, my only New Year’s resolution was to give wishes to other’s. It was to wish that everyone would find their own path one day, and achieve their own goals no matter how difficult it was. It’s stupid right?… I mean, you’re supposed make a New Year resolution for yourself, but instead, I made resolutions for other people instead.” Tina rambled thoughtlessly and concentrated at the sparks that occasionally lit the moonless sky, afraid that Mikoto may be annoyed with her thoughtless rambles. “So, this 2015, I hope that we make great memories together, cry together, laugh together, and I hope you will discover joy in the smallest thing in life despite the hardships” She whispered softly, but loud enough for the other to hear.
“I’m sorry… what am I even saying – nevermind” She quickly added and went quiet, anxious that he might’ve been looking at her oddly.
The way he’s laughing is a bit over the top, but it slowly fades out just as the ending credits of a film. It all happens from a different laughter filling the air instead, the one of higher pitch and an irresistible tone. He swears that it’s suddenly lit up the room to another level of brightness. There’s something so comforting, so homely about her laugh, and it catches both his interest and attention. He wants to hear it again; he wants to hear it always, forever until the world reaches never. He’s captivated and there’s a genuine smile perched along his lips.
He hasn’t smiled like this in ages.
“Embarrassing together, yeah. Prov-together. Same thing.” The touch she gives him in natural, and he doesn’t feel it the least foreign. Instead, he sits to just accept it, and watches the girl’s mind switch gears in between two moments. She’s flustered again, as seen by the brief glimpse of her rosy, red cheeks. There was another moment here where he couldn’t help but to smile, again. It was as if he was probing his reflection in the near by mirror. The admittance of a vaguely embarrassing line, then the feeling of wanting to disappear into a corner somewhere — and the way the feeling burned up your cheeks and caused you to cringe even further. He knew it all too well.
His feet helped him to stand again, and his eyes were better at observing his surroundings this time. He made sure no towers of textbooks would be blocking his way as he stood outside the kitchen entrance, besides the wall that separated it from the living room. “Uh, sure, I’d love a slice.” The girl had proceeded to come out afterwards, and he followed this time again, taking a seat into one of the chairs. It was clear of how ridiculously embarrassed the girl was, and he was trying to draft a method of how he, himself usually deterred from the feeling.
“It wasn’t really that embarrassing.” He pauses and makes sure he’s got her attention, offering a pleasant smile. “One time, I met this wonderful, beautiful girl after her concert… and totally freaked out.” The memory slowly recollects, and it forms images of the same night in his head. “So I tripped — as usual, right in front of her and fell on the ground there… and she was laughing, because it was so funny.” A hand now rests upon his forehead, and a look full of regret once again appears. “My first meeting with my biggest idol and I fall upon her feet… not in the way I wanted to, anyway. But see, that was way more embarrassing.”
“Oh yea, it is huh” she murmured to herself, still afraid to turn herself around to face him. Although it was the same, she still felt her emotions waver and her cheeks uncontrollably red. It was as if their roles had switched. Just a few moments ago, his sudden phrase made him bashful and unable to meet he eyes, and now, she was doing exactly the same. Thankfully though, her blanket covered most of her face, and she had hoped that it was enough to hide the redness of her cheeks.
At the sound of his voice, low and gentle, unlike her high-pitched laced with nervous energy, Tina looked at him, cheeks still red and eyes filled with uncertainty “Of course, there’s totally nothing embarrassing” Tina stuttered in an attempt to calm herself, which had obviously failed at the slightest shyness that danced around edge of her voice and her stiff smile in return to his pleasant one. As the other recounted his history of embarrassment, Tina listened and looked at him with wide-eyes brimming with curiosity. The way he unfolded his story with the various intonations of his voice, the various gestures of his bodily language of falling down, and the subtle expression of regret that complemented the scenarios of his story caught Tina’s attention. The previous embarrassment forgotten, and the sound of his voice comforted Tina. Tina laughed at his story, “That is pretty embarrassing” Tina mused as the smile hung on her lips "At least, she’ll remember you the most now" Tina encouraged, and nodded.
The sky turned moonless, and the snow fell heavier. Recollecting the goal of his visit, Tina tip-toed towards the door and noticed that her neighbour had been long gone. Only the empty hallway, snowy hallway remained without a hint of the previous cracked pot, just like the stranger’s visit. A visit that came and went without a trace, and another memory of their encounter buried within. But, she didn’t want him to go, though she would never admit that to him. Her bad day and a day that was doomed to be lonely turned into a memorable one because of him. Despite her wants, she had to let him go. After all, he had other things to get to, especially his work. However, she didn’t know how to say goodbye, goodbyes was something she wasn’t good at. In fact, she hated saying goodbyes, so she returned to her seat and munched into her cold pizza in silence.
